Section H.4 The 2023 exam

This is a closed book exam written by me, and is a good model for this year’s exam. The ‘formula sheet’ at the start is almost identical to this year’s formula sheet. In the solutions I was told to give the exact numbers of the results from the lectures and problem sheet exercises I was citing. You are of course not expected to have all of these memorised! Also note that some of the numbers have shifted around from year to year, so these will not always line up exactly with this year’s notes.
See this student question from last year H.10 for more commentary on a common error on Q4(c). This sort of confusion is one of the many reasons we need to be picky about notation for functions in Section 1.6.
A small notational thing to be aware of is that in previous years we wrote \(L^2(a,b)\) rather than \(L^2([a,b])\text{.}\)
