Section G.2 Don’t repeat every definition
When drafting an analysis argument, its often helpful to remind yourself of what the relevant definitions are. Typically, though, you do not need to remind your reader what these definitions are, and indeed this can often make things more confusing to read, especially if you are not careful to distinguish between different uses of the same symbol; see Section G.3 below.
The lecture notes themselves are a good model for this. In lecture, when I do remind us of a definition, I often do this in a different colour and in square brackets. This is my ‘scratch work’; I would not include it in my solutions to a problem sheet or exam question.
